Minutes for Women's Group CommitteeMeeting date: 2006-10-02 Next meeting: 2006-11-07 These minutes have not yet been approved. Submitted by: Terry Clark Attendees:
Summary: First WG meeting of this year. Discussed: finances, kitchen plans, new fundraising classes, leader, venue and time for retreat, general roles and duties for the year. Details Skyland Women’s Group Minutes: October 3, 2006
Our leader, Mary Ellen, brought the meeting to order. Joan Law led the prayer.
Mary Ellen reported that last meeting’s minutes are missing. Diane gave the treasurer’s report:
We began this period with a balance of $714.06. A gift to Children Inc. of $144.00 left us with 570.06. Revenues from Emile’s dinner net total were $1, 017.50. We paid $1, 017 for the new refrigerator for our remodeled kitchen. After deducting bank service charges, our bank balance is $546.56. We still have some moneys to give to Valley Church in December.
Sunshine Cards were signed by the attending women and will be sent to Janis Smith encouraging continued healing from cancer surgery and chemotherapy; to Shirley Moore and Harold Hoyt in sympathy for the loss of her mother, his wife, Virginia; to Alice Schank with hope for her recovery from diverticulitis; to Althea Cordoza (Elizabeth Elbon’s daughter), for recovery from a recurring cancer; and to Joyce Howard for recovery from Lymphoedema.
New Business: Jan asked the Women’s group members if they would be willing for her to bring the puppy she is training to our meetings. The consensus was: she should ask each hostess what she would prefer.
Joan has put together a committee to organize the kitchen utensils, dishes, linens, and other equipment. They are: Delores, Nancy Jo, and Del. Joan questioned whether we should sort out unneeded, worn out, or excess items before placing them in the kitchen. We decided we should. We also agreed that she should replace some of the worn dishtowels and potholders with new ones. Delores volunteered to sew Skyland ID tape on the new linens. Don Law has volunteered to place plastic drawer liners in the new drawers. We agreed that it would be good to put expanding dividers in the utensil drawers. We also decided to label the shelves and drawers so that it will be easy to find things and put them back where they belong.
Mary Ellen reported that the Deacons want to make a ceremonial presentation to the woman’s group for the kitchen. We discussed what the group would like. Suggestions were: a breakfast in our honor, a service in November or December, or presentation of a good pan for the kitchen.
It was suggested that we need a new kitchen coordinator. Janis has been faithfully doing that task and can no longer do so. It was decided that the group will split up the responsibility into three or more parts. Diane Cooke will call Janis to find out what she has been providing. She then will make an Excel Sheet of the supplies needed. Several people volunteered to split the job of providing the supplies, however, no one was officially designated to take Janis’ place. The volunteers will be named in the Skyland monthly newsletter. Each volunteer will buy supplies and then submit a bill to the church (Jerry).
Mary Ellen announced that we need a person to coordinate monthly potlucks. The Women’s group is responsible for the December potluck.
We also need a person to be responsible for the Sanctuary Flowers sign-up calendar. Mary Skillicorn volunteered to have a new calendar ready in December for signing to bring flowers in 2007.
Mary Skillicorn also volunteered to have the Sunshine cards ready for each meeting..
Future Plans: We decided to have a “spaghetti” dinner (or another entrée) in the third week of January 2007. Joan volunteered to coordinate.
Dorothy reminded us that she will be willing to do phone calling for reminding of activities, and soliciting of help for activities.
The group decided to try again for a women’s retreat. We decided to ask Eileen to lead the retreat. Holy Names in Los Gatos was suggested as a possible venue. Skyland church or a member’s home were also suggested. It was suggested that the meaning of the retreat be emphasized as: A time to raise spirituality and promote sisterhood in the Women’s group. The group voted in favor of having the retreat off-site. We were reminded that we need to plan a stipend for Eileen should she agree to lead the retreat. We will try to have the retreat in February, 2007. Julie and Mary will work on the retreat and report at next meeting.
We decided to ask Emile to help us with fundraising again. Mary will call to see if he will have a cooking class in April.
We decided that there will be no special classes for now. If someone has an idea for a special class we will discuss it next time.
Diane Cook volunteered to host the next meeting, November 7, 2006. Nancy Jo will do the devotional.
Respectfully Submitted,
Del Mahrle
