Summary: Deacons heard recommendations from T'Shala Olivieri and Kristen Pratt regarding in-care policy.

Details

MINISTERIAL SUBSTITUTES – T’Shala will preach on 5/28. She would like Kristen to be liturgist. Kristen will preach on 6/25.

INTERN AND 4-WAY COVENANT POLICY – Kristen was invited to the meeting to give her ideas. She gave the following suggestions for ways that the Deacons could support her while she is an intern at Foothills Community Church in Los Altos:

1. Candidate should meet with the Deacons at least once a year.

2. One Deacon be appointed as “mentor” while candidate is on “field placement”. The “mentor” would keep in touch with the candidate during the year.

3. Candidate could preach at Skyland periodically to keep the congregation in touch with his/her situation.

4. Members from Skyland Church might go to Foothills when Kristen is preaching.

T’Shala was also invited to the meeting to give her input. She appreciated being involved in the discussion. She felt that the process is the most important part and that roles should be made clear. She felt that there was some role confusion when her internship was completed. She supports the policy of not hiring interns from within the congregation. Kristen added that a picture of the intern and role description could be on the website, in the newsletter and on a bulletin board in Whitaker Hall.

It was suggested that perhaps there could be an open appendix for the 4-way covenant, so that it could be individualized for each person.
