The meeting was held at Ann Andrew’s new home. Terry called the meeting to order at 10:23AM.

Those in attendance were Ann Andrews, Terry Clark, Diane Cooke, Nancy Jo Lopp, Mary Skillicorn, Joan Law, Ruth Dawkins, Janis Smith, Julie Victorine, and Fern Thompson.

Devotions: Terry Clark read “The Continental Feast” by Jan Karon from The Medford series novels and a poem “Blackwater” by Mary Oliver.

The March minutes were distributed. Terry Clark explained she had corrected the minutes before she posted them on the internet on our UCC web site.

Diane Cooke reported that there is $729.08 in the treasury.

Sunshine cards were sent to Sally Mitchell, and Dorothy Ellis.

OLD BUSINESS:

1. ADDRESS BOOK: Nancy Jo Lopp will phone workers Monday to come help her assemble the new church directory.

2. RETREAT: Janis Smith inquired about a retreat at the Quaker Center in Ben Lomond. The cost would be $60 and twenty people can be accommodated or we can have up to sixty people in the big room for $150. If we reservered the large room we can order lunch for Five Dollars. The center has a woman who can lead us in devotions with a topic of “God in the Every Day” or “Writing a Spiritual Memoir”. Janis will try to reserve Aug. 5th from 9 to 5 in the large room with a lunch.

3. EMILE’S DINNER: We have about thirty people signed up for Emile’s class with openings for more.

4. ENDOWMENT FUND: Gerry Alonzo requested that someone from the Endowment Committee contact him concerning the donation for the kitchen remodel fund. Ann Andrews will contact Gerry.

5. MAUNDY THURSDAY: Nancy Jo Lopp requested soups and bread for Maundy Thursday meal. Let Nancy Jo know if you can donate either or both. There will be a donation for One Great Hour of Sharing. The meal will be at 6 P.M.; the service will be at 7 P.M.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. EASTER SUNDAY: Terry and Will Clark and Janis and Will Smith will set up the tables in Whitaker Hall for after the services. We will ask Paula and Terry Leary to help with the second service. We were requested to bring sweets for the two coffee hours.

2. LYMPHODEMIA FUND RAISER: Sometime in the future there will be a fund raiser for collecting money for braces for lymphodemia victims. There will be a fashion show to show these braces. The committee will need cooks and helpers for brunch. This is not a church related activity.

3. CHURCH CALLER: The women’s group was requested to have one of their members call with reminders for such things as flowers for the pulpit.

4. VALLEY CHURCHES UNITED: Ruth Dawkins read a letter requesting funds. Donations through the end of April will be matched by another donor. Checks may be written to Skyland Church with a note to indicate the money is for VCC. Their address is:

P.O. Box 367

NEXT MEETING: May 2nd at Mary Skillicorn’s will be a salad potluck. Janis Smith will lead us in devotions.

Respectfully submitted,

Fern Thompson, secretary
