Summary: Spaghetti dinner profit to be donated to the kitchen fund, volunteers for next year's officers are accepted,report on The Quaker Center facility for our Women's Retreat and decision made to also hold a summer retreat at Fern Thompson's.

SKYLAND CHURCH – WOMEN’S GROUP

March 7, 2006

The meeting was held at Fern Thompson’s. Terry called the meeting to order at 10:17am.

Those in attendance were Diane Cooke, Terry Clark, Nancy Jo Lopp, Mary Skillicorn, Joan Law, Ruth Dawkins, Mary Ellen McTamaney, Ann Andrews, Brenda Jatho, Jan Swayne, Laurel Hansen, and Fern Thompson.

Devotions: Ruth Dawkins read “A Morning Prayer� from the book Women Pray.

The February minutes were distributed. Terry Clark explained how to access the minutes at our Skyland UCC web site. Minutes will now be readable by members on the Skyland website and will not be individually e-mailed to members.

Diane Cooke reported that there is $737.06 in the treasury. The gross for the spaghetti dinner was $469; expenses were $188. The net profit from the dinner was $280.08. The women’s club purchased a new coffee pot for the kitchen.

Sunshine cards were sent to Sally Mitchell, Julie Victorine, and Debbie Blessing.

OLD BUSINESS:

1. RETREAT: Janis Smith inquired about a retreat at the Quaker Center in Ben Lomond. In Janis’ absence Terry reported that the cost would be $60 and twenty

people can be accommodated. We decided to ask Janis to inquire about future dates in October. We decided to try to have a summer retreat a Fern Thompson’s.

2. EMILE’S DINNER: Emile Mooser has agreed to host another class with dinner on Wed., April 12th. Cost will be $55. Call Mary Skillicorn for reservations. Nancy Jo Lopp will put an article in the “Mountain Network News�. Terry Clark will submit an article for “Go Tell It on the Mountain�. Dorothy Ellis will be asked to man a sign-up table after church services.

3. MAUNDY THURSDAY: Once again services will be held on Maundy Thursday. We will have a soup dinner preceding the services. Nancy Jo Lopp requested people to donate soups. Time for the soup dinner is 6:30.

4. ADDRESS BOOK: Nancy Jo Lopp reported that she will be putting the new directory together on Wed. March 29th. Jan Swayne, Mary Skillicorn, and Fern Thompson will help Nancy Jo with cutting and assembling the books.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. NEW OFFICERS: There are volunteers for next year’s new officers, beginning in Sept., 2006. Mary Ellen McTamaney has volunteered to be president, Diane Cooke will return as treasurer, and Terry Clark has volunteered for the role of secretary. If anyone else is interested in these jobs they are welcome to speak up. Let Terry know.

2. KITCHEN REMODEL: Fern Thompson gave a brief report on what and when the kitchen remodel project will be done.

3. SOAP MAKING CLASS: Terry Clark will inquire about having a soap making class in November or before Mother’s Day. She will report at our next meeting.

4. GLOBAL STRATEGIES ON AIDES IN AFRICA: The Sunday after Easter Bridgit Nolan will preach during our church service on ideas and plans to combat aides.

NEXT MEETING: April 4th at Ann Andrews. Ann will e-mail Terry with driving directions to her home and Terry will send them out to everyone. Terry Clark will lead us in devotions.
