SKYLAND CHURCH – WOMEN’S GROUP

January 3, 2006

The meeting was held at Nancy Jo Lopp’s. Terry Clark called the meeting to order at 10.20.

Those in attendance were Nancy Jo Lopp, Terry Clark, Diane Cooke, Mary Ellen McTamaney, Mary Skillicorn, Dorothy Ellis, Joan Law, Janis Smith, Janet Davies, Denie Albert and Fern Thompson.

Larry Lopp took group pictures before our meeting.

Devotions: Carol Greene and her puppet, Ayana, told of the Japanese Buddist Joya-No-Kane or Temple Bell Toll. A Japanese Buddist rings a huge bell 108 times on New’s Year Eve. One ring for each earthly trouble they wish to erase for the New Year. Joan Law told how “He has born our grief and carried our sorrow. Janet Davies told how we’ve been protected even if we weren’t aware of the protection. We ended with a circle of prayer ending with the Lord’s Prayer.

The November minutes were corrected to show our meeting date of Jan 3rd. Janis Smith moved and Denie Albert seconded that the minutes be approved as corrected. The minutes were so approved.

Diane Cooke passed out the treasurer’s report. We have $538.77 in the bank. Joan Law moved and Mary Ellen McTamaney seconded that we approve the treasurer’s report. The treasurer’s report was so approved.

Nancy Jo Lopp furnished some of her cards for sunshine cards. We sent cards to Ruth Dawkins, Julie and Bruce Victorine, Sally Mitchell, Debbie Blessing, and Lou McTamaney.

OLD BUSINESS:

1. RETREAT: Janis Smith agreed to try to set up a retreat for sometime in March. She will get information from Julie Victorine.

2. PASTA DINNER: The Women’s Club will sponsor a pasta dinner for congregation members, families and friends on Friday, Jan. 27th from 6:30 to 8:30. It is hoped that this will be a family get together night.

Set Up Committee: Jan Swayne chairperson, Joan Law, Jan Geist, Mary Skillicorn, and Fern Thompson.

Clean Up Committee: Janis Smith chairperson, Margaretta Dollard, and Jan Swayne.

Meal Committee: Jan Geist chairperson, and Patricia Wood.

Terry Clark will email us giving a list of what we signed up to bring.

Publicity: Nancy Jo Lopp and Mary Ellen McTamaney will announce in church about the dinner. Mary Ellen will make a sign for Whitaker Hall about it. We will try to get John Wetherill to include it in the “Go Tell It on the Mountains.

Donations: We will have a basket for donations to the kitchen fund displayed with a suggested donation of five dollars per person.

4. HOLIDAY REVIEW: It was established that Christian Ed is in charge of decorating Whitaker Hall for the Christmas season. Dorothy Ellis will donate tree ornaments for future trees. There was a question of how to tell workers where the coffee is kept.

5. EMILE’S DINNER: Emile Mooser has agreed to host another class/dinner for sometime in March. Mary Skillicorn will set up a date with Emile.

NEW BUSINESS:

Memorial for Jacob Buskirk (Julie and Bruce Victorine’s son)

Janet Davies has organized a memorial luncheon for after the service. She has ordered rental tables and will obtain chairs from Radnich Ranch. She will decorate the tables with native plants and votive candles. The table will be set with glass table settings. Salads will be in place at the table. The remainder of the meal will be potluck style.

Friday at four o’clock Larry Lopp will help Janet get the chairs and set up tables and chairs. Saturday at 10 A.M. we are to meet at Whitaker Hall to help make the salads, set up, and get ready for the luncheon. Denie Albert, Joan Law, Carolyn Bowen, Terry Clark, Mary Skillicorn, Fern Thompson, and any others wishing will help on Saturday morning.

NEXT MEETING: Feb. 1st at Diane Cooke’s. Janis Smith will lead us in devotions.

Respectfully submitted,

Fern Thompson, secretary
