SKYLAND CHURCH – WOMEN’S GROUP

February 7, 2006

The meeting was held at Diane Cooke’s. Terry called the meeting to order at 10:17.

Those in attendance were Diane Cooke, Terry Clark, Nancy Jo Lopp, Mary Skillicorn, Dorothy Ellis, Joan Law, Janis Smith, Ruth Dawkins, Julie Victorine, Jan Geist, and Fern Thompson.

Devotions: Janis Smith read an article from “The United Church News? by Tyrone Reinhardt about forgiveness titled? Imagine Being Able to Forgive Son’s Murderer?. Nancy Jo Lopp read a reading about feasting. Terry Clark reminded us of Coretta Scott King’s funeral this day.

The January minutes were approved.

Diane Cooke reported that there is $991.11 in the treasury. She wrote checks for the spaghetti dinner expenses during the meeting. The net profit from the dinner was $280.08.

Diane furnished a card for Alice Schank. Dorothy will remind Mary about bringing sunshine cards. There was a suggestion that the hostess provide sunshine cards. Mary said she would continue to supply the cards and send them out.

OLD BUSINESS:

1. RETREAT: Julie Victorine will phone Janis Smith with information about the retreat. Janis will try to set up a retreat at Villa Maria del Mar. Several suggestions were made of other sites for the retreat.

2. EMILE’S DINNER: Emile Mooser has agreed to host another class with dinner on Wednesday April 12th. Cost will be $55. Call Mary Skillicorn for reservations. Nancy Jo Lopp will put an article in the “Mountain Network News?. Terry Clark will submit an article for the “Go Tell It on the Mountain?. Dorothy Ellis will remind members when she makes her phone calls.

3. NEWSPAPER: The United Church of Christ publishes the newspaper “The Pacific?. For subscriptions write to:

Nevada Conference, UCC

21425 Birch Street

Hayward, CA 94541-2131

4. PASTA DINNER: The dinner was a huge success. We might consider having a dinner twice a year. There was a question about calling the fee a donation. It was suggested that we have more visiting time and drinks for the children. There

was also discussion about having wine and whether anyone was offended by it.

Joan reported that there is nothing in the by-laws prohibiting wine but we do want

to be sensitive to those who would prefer no wine at church. Joan suggested that

perhaps we could have wine only at selected dinners and not as a regular offering.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. ADDRESS BOOK: Nancy Jo Lopp and Wes Smith are working on the 2006 edition.

2. MONTHLY ACTIVITIES BROCHURE: Nancy Jo Lopp is trying to update the schedule for responsibility for the various activities of the church.

3. KITCHEN ITEMS: Joan Law will write down where various items are to be kept in Whitaker Hall. Janis Smith will continue to purchase items for church use. Joan Law moved and Nancy Jo Lopp seconded that Joan purchase a new coffee pot. The motion passed.

NEXT MEETING: March 7th at Fern Thompson’s. Ruth Dawkins will lead us in devotions.

Respectfully submitted,

Fern Thompson, secretary
