Minutes for Council CommitteeMeeting date: 2010-06-15 Next meeting: 2010-07-13 These minutes have not yet been approved. Submitted by: Terry Clark Attendees:
Summary: The Church Council discussed the current budget shortfall, the Skyland Run, ideas for better hall rental, formatting for the address book, the lost projector and work status on the Memorial Garden. Details Stephen opened the meeting with a prayer.
Gerry gave an updated budget report. We are still experiencing a shortfall and only a few new pledges have come in since last month. A discussion took place as to why pledges were down this year. It was acknowledged that there are members out of work and suffering financial problems that impact giving.
An update on the Skyland Run was given by Ann. Bill Colbran is managing raffle tickets and donations are being sought. Nancy Jo is making new banners for town, the website is up, past participants have been notified and flyers have been distributed. The new T-shirt design is being finalized. There is a big need for more volunteers for the Run.
Gina Wetherill was invited to discuss the situation with Whitaker Hall rental. Gina has been the rental manager but is now resigning. Everyone agreed that a new job description needs to be written for the role and this would be a good opportunity to create a new plan for use and advertising. A planning meeting on this topic will be scheduled for October, after the Harvest Festival. Stephen will lead the meeting and act as interim rental manager for now. A request was made to publish the hall rental/use guidelines on the website for everyone to see and be aware of.
Nancy Jo led a discussion of how to enter family/spouse/adult children's names in the directory book. No decision was made. Nancy Jo also announced that the projector was missing and needs to be returned by whoever borrowed it. Larry said he would send out a message to the congregation.
Larry gave an update on the Memorial Garden project. Due to the many tasks yet to complete, he feels we may have to call for a work day and get extra help on completing what needs to be done.
