Old Business:
Crop Walk: Jan reported that the CROP local organization has been informed that Skyland will not be participating this year.
Bread for the World: Skyland members are encouraged to check out the website, www.bread.org to learn more about this organization and current ways to become involved. As in past years, the Mission Board will sponsor an offering of letters to address a hunger issue. Jan will contact the national organization so that our letters will be written and sent to congress members at the most opportune time.
Heifer Project: Harold has agreed to accept leadership with this project. Since the tube of quarters is almost full, Harold will be asked to share some “words with the children? so that the children can help make the decision of how this money should be used.
Medical collection: Bill represented Angela and informed us that the Mission Board does not need to assume any responsibility for this project. It involves an occasional collection of supplies and equipment and can be handled by Angela.
Giving book: Nancy Jo reported that she plans to update the Skyland Giving Book in fall so as to include information about recipients of this year’s Skyland Run.
Book Drive: Angela and Bill are enthusiastic about leading another book drive. Collection of books would take place this spring and books would be sent to Fiji or South Africa. Money will need to be raised to cover the shipping costs.
Caring Connection: Linda shared information on the status of the Caring Connection. Discussion was held regarding the form that this new endeavor might take, as well as ways to communicate with members about opportunities to receive help and offer help. We discussed including information about the Caring Connection in Skyland’s annual pledge letter and Linda will contact Peggy about that possibility. Bill will help design a card to gather information. Stephen offered the phrase, “a ride, a meal, a hand? as a way to help people understand the Caring Connection.
