Dinner Meeting at Linda Heyes starting at 6pm.

Nancy opened the meeting with a "Thought for the Day."

Stephen led us in prayer and we began eating our delicious dinner and discussing agenda items.

Linda moved that we accept the minutes from January. Larry seconded and the minutes were approved.

Old Business:

We discussed past Mission Board projects. We decided to continue most of the projects and began the hunt for a lead person for each event.

1. crop walk--consensus was that we take a year off from this event. Jan will send a note to the area leader of the event informing him of our decision.

2. bread for world--Jan will take leadership on this and stay current with the national organization.

3. heifer project--Nancy will talk with Harold about whether he is able to take the lead on this project.

4. book drives--Angela has great interest in this project and may be able to serve as lead.

5. Migrant Worker Kits--Larry will give leadership to this effort, with most of the effort coming during November and December.

6. assisted with Skyland Run--everyone will help with this project. Nancy will invite Bill, Terry and Paula to our next Mission Board meeting so that we can begin to plan together for this summer event.

New Business

· Coffee Hour volunteers for March and April--Members of the committee signed up for Sunday Coffee Hours April: Jan _7th, Lopps 14th,

Linda Heyes 28th.

· Caring Connection--discussion was held regarding a proposed new venture, the Caring Connection. Linda Heyes volunteered to lead this effort. Skyland Church wants to be aware of the needs of people in the community and help to meet those needs. Possible needs might include food, transportation to appointments, rides to church, emergency supplies and occasional childcare. We are just beginning to discuss the logistics of this program and value the input of Skyland members.

· Council Report including Haiti disbursements--Skyland members contributed $3159. toward the needs in Haiti.

· Revising Gifting book--Nancy Jo will give leadership to this effort.

• Budget for UCC conference--In the past, Skyland Church has contributed 7 and 1/2% of its budget to the UCC's wider mission. Larry moved, Jan seconded, that we contribute 8 and 1/2% of the Skyland budget to UCC conference, with the intent of moving towards meeting the conference guideline of 10%. Motion carried.

Stephen led us in a closing prayer. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 15, at 6:00 at the Lopp’s home.
