Summary: Bread for the World on Nov.22, Migrant Workers Donations, Blanket Sunday Dec. 13

Details

Old Business

We began the meeting by finalizing the selection and distribution of the Skyland Run monies or $5650. There were a few changes most notably to include money sent to the Girls on the Run for running scholarships. Anne spoke about the Foundry School as a worthy recipient that supports teenagers who do not fit in to the public schools. It mentors them so that they get a high school diploma. We are responding to the local needs to support the homeless especially homeless families at the Rebele Family Shelter in Santa Cruz. We agreed given the nature of the economy if more monies came in for the Skyland Run then we would apply them to local organizations.

We went over the planning for Bread for the World on Nov. 22. Stephen will give a sermon on hunger and the senate bill to reform foreign aid to more effectively combat hunger and poverty. Anne will write sample letters and send out a blast email.

Nancy Jo has already written a newsletter article with the various toiletries that can be donated for the migrant workers. She has also been passing out the lists and announcing it at church. We are receiving many donations of toiletries already. Angela suggested that we give community service credit for any child at the school who collects toiletries. The final collection will be on 12/6. Then sometime that week we will sort them and take them to the Davenport Resource Center.

New Business

Jan wrote a draft of the letter to be sent out to the organizations that receive the Skyland Run monies. It will ask them to let us know how the money is spent. Angela responded by editing the draft. Anne and Nancy Jo will meet with Gerry and give him the letter and the final distribution of Run monies.

Nancy Jo reported that Linda Heyes will be the new Mission Board member after the annual meeting in February 2010. Stephen added that he will announce the collection for Blanket Sunday on 12/13 and do words for the children and we know it will be creative.

We will meet again in January. Happy Holidays.
