Details

Old Business

The meeting began with a discussion about planning and marketing for the 2009 Skyland Run. We will have a meeting on May 20th of the Skyland Run Working Committee including all the Mission Board. New Run banners and locations for them were discussed as well as the registration sheet. Jan Parker suggested that we notify the local schools since this was a family event. It was also suggested that we contact Girls on the Run to see if we could do hand-outs at their Run. We also thought that if we could do hand-outs at the Firemen’s BBQ that would be an appropriate time.

Anne read an email from Jan Swayne who was visiting Julia in Botswana. Julia is really having an incredible experience and learning a lot. Jan Parker said that we raised $540 for the Crop Walk and that a record 9 people went on the walk this year.

Glenda and Randy McCalla joined the meeting to talk about their upcoming trip to Kadavu, one of the Fiji Islands. They are going with Connie Durant and the Kadavu Connection. It is comprised of high school students from the Washington area. They will be gone from July 8th-July 27th. Their wish is to take a laptop computer and any monetary donations. Stephen suggested that they talk about the trip in church and take a collection. Skyland already supports the education of 2 students from Kadavu through Run monies. It will really be an exciting trip for Randy and Glenda. They will write an article for the newsletter.

We decided to discuss doing an offering for Bread for the World in the fall as we are concentrating on the Skyland Run at the moment.

Anne will write an article for the June newsletter about Julia Swayne in Botswana and also about the arrival of the ALP books in Lesotho, Africa.
