Details

Stephen led us in a prayer and we approved the old minutes from last spring.

Old Business

While enjoying a sumptuous meal at the Nancy Jo’s house, we had our first meeting of the year. We haven’t yet received the totals for the Skyand Mountain Run. Jackie is contacting both Jennifer and Paula to see when we will have that figure. Anne thanked everyone for all their help and hard work at the Skyland Run in July. We discussed some suggestions to improve the Run. Stephen noted that everyone seemed pleased with the event.

We looked over the Mission Board Calendar and our tasks for the Fall especially the Migrant Worker kits in November. We also will discuss the allocation of the Run monies once we have a total.

New Business

Joan Law, our retired Board Chair, returned to tell us news of our new Indian student and Anandon. She spoke of Anandon’s difficult life and the students that he has helped with the money that we send from Skyland Church. Joan also spoke of her idea that she discussed with Anandon of someday starting a school to educate the children of the “untouchable?coolies. Joan will continue to communicate with Anandon and report back to us.

Anne said that she showed the African Library Project DVD to the Loma Prieta Women’s Club and raised $178. for our book drive. We went over the guidelines and the strategy for publicizing the book drive. Angela will create a flyer to be posted. Anne wrote an article for the Mountain Network News that will appear in the October Issue. The exhibition will be Oct. 12th from 6:30PM-8:30PM and the mountain community will be invited. Nancy Jo said that the women’s group will handle refreshments. Anne said that she and Lesley will hang the exhibition on Saturday Oct. 11. Jan and Nancy Jo offered to help. Nancy Jo put all of our dates on the church calendar. We agreed that we’d collect books until Nov. 15. then Jan gave a lot of suggestions on a letter to go out to the schools in the district and the churches. Our books will be going to Mmakgori Primary School and Nancy Jo suggested a map and Stephen said he’d like a thermometer to show how we are doing.

Then we discussed the Youth Group Pancake Breakfast to help the African Library Project book drive for library #1. Kacie Clarke has already collected 1,000 books so the youth group will support her in raising the necessary $500. to ship the books to Africa. Jan and Gene Geist will help the youth group to make the pancake breakfast a great success on Oct. 5.

Anne will write a newsletter article for October on both of the African Library Project book drives and the Pancake Breakfast. We decided to have our meeting on Monday Oct. 20th at Anne’s house.

We then closed with a prayer.
