Summary: Much of the meeting was spent with Paula Leary to discuss creative solutions and ways of assisting her with the upcoming Skyland Run. Bread for the world will be on June15th. No meetings again until fall. Details The last Missions Meeting of the year convened at Anne Evans home. Not only was Anne our hostess but she supplied a wonderful meal for us. Anne, could you please include the recipe for that Thai carrot salad on the web site. So delciious!!! Jan Parker brought the dessert. A good committee runs on good food I always say!
Paula Leary joined us to discuss ways we could help her with the Skyland Run
We spent most of the meeting discussing the Skyland Run logistics and planning with Paula Leary. The run is July 12, 2008. Paula had a to do list with categories/chairs and various members of the Board volunteered to help. A lot of creative ideas were suggested to help make the 16th Annual Skyland Run the best ever. Paula will begin announcing the Run in church and passing around sign-up sheets.
Anne and Jan will distribute flyers around town and at the Wharf to Wharf race in Santa Cruz.
Paula will request sponsors from the congregation during church announcements
Nancy Jo will assist Paula with the art work for the flyers.
Paula will request that the Music and Arts committee handle the music.
Jackie, when given a template from last year from Paula, will rewrite it for the Mountain Network News,
Harold Hoyt will chair the emergency support team, including having 2 people to assist with parking.
Two Areas of Concern are
1) the Results/times The recording of times at the end of the run and the winners in categories needs more volunteer help as well as training. Jackie volunteered to help there. The goal is to make this Run the most professionally handled ever. The publishing online of the results (that day if possible) needs a dedicated, detail-oriented volunteer also.
2) Same day registration. Last year 112 people registered the morning of the Run. Stephen will be the host and guide people through the process. Also he will encourage everyone to check their sticker on their entry number to make sure they are in the right category. Pre-training of registrars will happen too.
Bread for the World- June 15, 2008 Bread for the World will be on a potluck Sunday so everyone will be encouraged to bring sandwiches and finger food so they can write letters. Talking points for the letters will be projected on the wall in Whitaker Hall thus saving paper. A few paper copies will also be available. The letters to the senators and congressional representatives this year will be in support of increasing funding for the Millenneum Development Goal (MDG) and the supporting the Global Poverty Act which calls for a coordinated strategy for helping the developing world and achieving the MDG. Jackie will write a newsletter article, supply the letter templates, address labels, envelopes, papers and pens. Anne will be gone but Jan, Harold and Nancy Jo will provide support for the effort.
Anne thanked Larry Lopp and Jackie for presenting our greening process at the UCNC conference.
Anne on behalf of all of us thanked Jan Parker and Stephen for their Crop Walk efforts. Stephen said that we raised $943.
We thanked Anne for her wonderful showing of the African Library Project DVD.
We closed with a prayer. We will not meet again until next fall. Location and date of next meeting tbd. September 15th is just a suggestion.
