Summary: Deacons welcomed two new members who will be joining next Sunday. They approved $400.00 for Patricia Wood towards testing required for seminary. They made plans for filling the pulpit during Stephen's upcoming vacation.

Details

The meeting was called to order at 12:05 by chair, Marcia Rollins. Stephen opened with a prayer.

Incoming new members, Anthony Petrillo and Julia Swayne told us a bit about themselves. Stephen reviewed the order of service for welcoming new members, which will be next Sunday, April 20.

Patricia Wood asked the deacons to contribute to the cost of psychological testing that she needed to take as part of her seminary program. Deacons have done this with previous interns in-care. It was moved, seconded and passed to ask the treasurer for $400.00 to be paid to Patricia to help defray the cost. Patricia also asked that a sub-committee of deacons be appointed to act as her in-care committee. It was moved, seconded and passed that the following people serve on that sub-committee: Larry Cooke, Pam Nates, Jeremy Cole and Holly Reed.

Minutes from March meeting were approved.

Old Business

1.PSR intern for next year - there have been no applicants for next year.

2.Mentor relationship with Samoan church - Stephen has made contact with the minister. He will try to set up a meeting with Skyland members and the minister at Asilomar next month.

3.Church phone book - general feeling was that all members should be listed together, as opposed to separating active and inactive members. Stephen will contact Nancy Jo who is publishing the book.

4.Announcements at service - Jennifer brought up the discussion that we had at the March meeting. She brought it to our attention that the request to eliminate or shorten announcements had come from the council. This had not been clear at the March meeting. Result of further discussion was that announcements should stay as they are. If the liturgist sees that there seem to be a large number of announcements, s/he can request that they be kept brief.

New Business -

1.Stephen's Vacation - He will be on vacation 5/11, 5/25 and 6/29. Larry C. will ask T'Shala if she can preach on 6/29. Larry will also co-ordinate delegates and members who attend Asilomar to share their experience for the service on 5/25.

2.Marcia mentioned that she would like to have a deacon's presence at Harvest Festival. Informational brochures, suggestions for living "green" and canvas tote bags are some ideas for a booth.

Next meeting - May 6, 7:30 p.m.

Stephen led us in a closing prayer.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
