Summary: The Music and Arts Board brainstormed ideas for events to be held this coming year both for the enjoyment of members and to help with our outreach goals.

Details

The first meeting of this year's new Board of Music and Arts was held after church on February 16, 2008, called to order by John Gaffney.

The group agreed to set a meeting schedule of every other month after Potluck, at the church.

John is finishing up his final term as Music and Arts board chair and we need to "groom" a new chair for next year.

Committee members volunteered for the following areas of responsibility:

John Gaffney, Chair

Pippa and Christina, Assistant Co-Chairs

Terry, Recording Secretary

Pippa, After Church Snacks for May & June

Patricia, Skyland Run Music

Erica, Harvest Festival Music

A group discussion was held to brainstorm ideas for this year's art and music offerings. Board members will report on further development of their proposed ideas at the next meeting.

Pippa - "Skyland Music Series" held both at the church and different local venues on Sunday evenings or afternoons. Pippa will manage 4 events this year for the music series and will manage all artistic direction.

The music series will meet our church outreach goals and no money will be made from the events. Single or subscription tickets will be sold at a suggested $15 per event in the subscription form or $20 individually at the door. All profits will go to the musicians, less a small amount if needed, to cover any costs.

Pippa would also like to see Skyland re-convene our past tradition of caroling at Christmas.

Patricia - Rotating art shows, "The Whitaker Gallery," featuring art created by both member and wider-community artists, hung in Whitaker Hall. Patricia will begin with displays from church members. Patricia also proposed that we use more slide presentations with a theme basis during certain services or afterwards during fellowship.

Stephen - "Open Mike" style coffee house/talent show so we can learn more about the "hidden talents" of Skyland members. Suggested on an occasional Friday evening and during special summer events.

Erica - Expanded on Stephen's idea and will contact her poet friends and associates to see about putting together some poetry readings for members as part of the "Open Mike" series.

Gina - "Morning Meditations with Stephen" was suggested to create a half hour of quiet time for people who wish to do morning meditation at Skyland. Stephen agreed to do this and looks forward to it.

Terry - Currently working in partnership with Patricia, Erica, Del Mahrle and Carol Greene, to run a summer arts camp for grades kindergarten through 5th grade July 7-11. The camp will be held in Whitaker Hall and is open to the community. Registration and business aspects will be handled by Los Gatos/Saratoga Recreation.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:15PM after a prayer with Stephen.
