Summary: We discussed Christmas plans for Potluck and Giving Tree, Spaghetti Dinner, Women's retreat, Collage workshop and Wine Tasting. Details Skyland Womens Group Minutes: November 6, 2007
Our leader, Mary Ellen, brought the meeting to order.
Del Mahrle led the devotional.
Since both Diane Cooke and Mary Skillicorn could not be here for this meeting we did not have a treasurers report. Mary Ellen estimated that we still have $896.14 in the womens group treasury. Del Mahrle proposed and Ruth Dawkins seconded that we give $200.00 to the Valley Churches United for their Christmas fund. The members present voted to do so.
Sunshine Cards were signed by the attending women and will be sent to Nancy Jo Lopp, wishing her continued recovery and health after her recent hip replacement operation. We also signed and sent a card to Jennifer Busam with our regret and sympathy at the death of her husband. A card will be sent to Barbara Perry, whose relatives were in a recent accident.
Old Business: Brenda will lead the Beading class on November 10, 2007 from 10:00 to 2:00. Ten people have signed up so far. We will charge $20.00 per person to attend the class.
The Christmas Potluck will be held on December 15, 2007. Dorothy Ellis will decorate. Brenda, Fern and Del will help set up. We are all to bring a main Dish to the Potluck.
The spaghetti dinner will be on January 18, 2008. Jan Geist will cook. Nancy Jo will cook if she is able. Del Mahrle also volunteered to help with cooking. Ruth Dawkins, and Joan Law will co-chair the event. Diane Cook, Jan Geist, and Paula Leary will also help. We decided to charge $7.50 per person, $20.00 for families, and there will be no charge for children five years old and under. Mary Ellen will put an item in the church newsletter.
Mary Ellen reported that Deborah Streeter has agreed to lead the womens retreat. We will pay her $250.00. The theme may be Love and the Environment. Julie and Mary Ellen have arranged for the same venue as last year. This will cost us $ 150.00. Lunch will be $180. We decided we should charge $35.00 per person. The deadline for signing up will be February 3, 2008.
Mary Ellen also reported that The Womens Group will be hosting a wine tasting at Silver Mountain Winery on Friday, May 9, 2008 from 6:30 to 8:30 P. M. This will cost the Womens Group $10.00 per person. We will charge $20.00 per person. We need a minimum of 25 people to attend. We will provide Hors Douvres. We will also take care of the clean-up. It is hoped that the winery will have special cases of wines for reasonable prices.
Ruth Dawkins reported that Barbara Broadbent likes the idea of leading a Collage Workshop. We talked about having the workshop on a Saturday in April, (possibly 19) 2008. The workshop will probably be held at Whitaker Hall from 10:00 A. M. to 4:00 P. M. We will pay Barbara $100.00 plus materials. Lunch will be a Salad Potluck. Beverages will be provided. Charge per person has not been decided.
Christina Schwabecher also was willing to do a collage workshop. We decided that we will have Barbara Broadbent do the workshop this time, and ask Christina in the future.
New Business: Mary Ellen reported that Larry Lopp asked if the womens group would like him to talk about the parcel tax at one of our meetings. The group decided that there were too few women in the group who were affected by the tax to make it worthwhile for him to come.
Joan sent a message to the group that Gina Foster, who visited recently during the Harvest Festival, noticed a lack in the church kitchen. She sent us six spatulas. The womans group sends her their thanks.
Fern gave us a report on the projects she has been working on for the trustees. Gas lines have been installed (by Wes), heaters in Nursery and Bathrooms, replacing rotting boards on Garage. Floor will be done in mens bathroom (soon to be the unisex/accessible bathroom). We do not have enough money to redo the floor in the womens bathroom. We also will have to wait for stall partitions in the Unisex bathroom. We have new lights downstairs in Whitaker Hall. More will be added soon. Ferns son will plumb the new bathroom. Windows for bathrooms and nursery have been ordered but have not arrived. A new handrail for the back steps has been bought and will be installed soon.
The Giving Tree will be obtained and set up on Advent Sunday. Brenda Jatho will find the tree and will set it up. Diane will help.
Brenda volunteered to host the next meeting, January 8, 2008. Carol Green will do the devotional.
Respectfully Submitted,
Del Mahrle
