Summary:

Details

Nursery: Holly-no further sign-ups to be Nursery attendants beyond Pam and Kim C., however, Kelly Leary worked in the Nursery today and said she would happily work in the nursery if she was at church and any children were present. We discussed this and agreed to pay Kelly for Sundays she is there and there are children.

Sunday School: Patricia-Updated curriculum has been distributed. Everyone is pleased with the curriculum. Teaching substitutions for October have been arranged. Thanks to those who shifted their schedules. Patricia will not be with us during the school year beginning in September and it is important that we assign a new superintendent as soon as possible so that they can get experience. We should invite Kristin Pratt to talk about her experience with the Los Altos Hills UCC church school.

Youth: Kim Gautho, there is lots going on and the calendar is filling up. Several people showed up for Harvest Festival and things went very well. The plan is to keep the money raised at Harvest Festival for Youth activities as has been done in the past. There are new faces and new interest which is terrific. Here are the next activities planned:

The Skyland Youth group has a unique opportunity to visit Boomer's castle in Bonny Doon on October 14th.

Boomer's castle, or Boomeria, is the unique home of Preston Q. Boomer, who's been teaching science at San Lorenzo Valley high school since 1956 (!). Check out these articles to get an idea of this unique mountain guy:

For an idea of what we'll see at Boomeria, check out: http://home.comcast.net/%7epqboom/tour/tour.html

I'd like to give "the Boom" an idea of how many kids to expect, so if you or your kids are interested, please RSVP as soon as possible.

For logistics, we'll meet at Skyland for the 10:30 service on Oct 14th. Depending on the sermon topic, we'll leave either at 10:30 or we'll dismiss the youth and leave just after the sermon. We'll carpool to Bonny Doon, stopping for lunch in Felton along the way. (Kids can bring their own lunch or buy something at New Leaf- send $$.) Then, we'll spend a couple of hours at Boomeria, returning to Skyland by 4-5 pm.

There will be a beach bonfire on November 4th.

Budget: The last council meeting has generated a request to have our preliminary budget for fiscal year 6-07 thru 5-08 submitted before the end of the year. The thought was that Youth will raise money each year at Harvest Festival to use for activities. We may be able to use the Sunday School curriculum Patricia has written for this year again next year to save money. No budget was determined at this point. The suggestion was made that a paid position for Director of Christian Education be created.

Chair: The council has also requested that we elect next year's chair now so they will have some experience before the current chair leaves the board. (my six years are done as of January 08) No one stepped forward with an interest in being chair. Gina Adams, however, has joined our group and is considering serving with us. She is already working in support of Kim and the Youth.

Time and Responsibilities: We have also been asked to submit to the council a comprehensive description of the responsibilities and time commitment involved in being part of the board of religious education. I have created the basis for this document and will update it with time commitments specified.

Adult Education: Our Greening of the Church program is being led by Jackie Seymour. Watch for Jackie's notifications of opportunities to participate in local activities around Global Climate Change and making the church green.

Advent Sunday: Holly will lead Advent Sunday Activities with assistance from Pam, Jeremy and the Youth.

Next Meeting is Sunday, October 30th. (Nov. 4th there is a conflict.)
