The meeting was called to order by Jennifer at 11:45 a.m.

Stephen began with a prayer, after which a motion was made to approve the September Minutes, which passed. Larry said he would put the full edited minutes on the website without the private condition in the future. The unedited version will continue to be e-mailed directly to the deacons.

Assignment of Duties:

Stephen mentioned Streeter will preach on 10/14, and he will determine whether T’shala and/or Patricia will fill in on 10/7, while he is away. We then proceeded to assign next month’s duties as follows:

Mentor of Marina UCC Congregation

The Council approved the Deacon’s request for the Church to be a Mentor. Ruth agreed to lead the group, with Jan Swayne. They will ask Jeremy if he wants to participate.

New Member Sunday

Stephen, Richard, Jennifer, Larry and David will be able to attend the Thursday evening orientation at 7:30pm on October 25th at the church. We are expecting 3 new members.

Council Requests:

Jennifer reported the Council would like all boards to choose a new chair in December, provide a job description for the nominating committee, and review the bylaws. Jennifer agreed to add a review of the Deacon’s budget on the next meeting’s agenda, and create a job description to be reviewed at the next meeting. We agreed to consider changing the bylaws at a later time.

Membership Policy:

The Deacons agreed to change the policy to guidelines, and to fold the Less Active category into Inactive Members as defined in the By Laws. Ruth suggested and the Deacons agreed to consider adding a category of Associate Member for those inactive members who wish to remain associated with the church. We agreed to consider requesting the addition the category to the By Laws in the future. The Deacons then discussed the need to greet the visitors and agreed to assign a Deacon to be responsible each Sunday, for either finding someone to be a greeter or to greet the Visitors and Inquirers themselves, October’s assignments were then made as underlined in Assignment of Duties above. Finally, Stephen and Jennifer agreed to edit the discussed changes into the guidelines for review and approval at the next meeting.

Other Business:

Stephen mentioned that Tom Kugler will be going to San Diego and suggested we recognize him at the Deacon’s Sunday, to be held on Sunday 11/18. The Deacons will get their picture taken on the 28th. Stephen mentioned he will be officiating at Ilene’s ordination on October 21st. Larry mentioned that T’Shala would like to speak to the Deacons, and Patricia would like a representative of the Deacons to attend her bible study meetings.

The next meeting needs to be on October 28th after church.
