Treasurer’s Report:
Gerry Alonzo reported that our pledge drive was successful with 101% of our goal objective. Last year’s budget had a surplus of $3,319 which will help to decrease the deficit from previous years. The various funds were discussed and how these funds could be used.
NEW BUSINESS
Handicap Access to Lower Level: A handout was given proposing a driveway from the parking lot to the lower level. The grade and requirements for handicapped was discussed. Different plans were explored. Larry Lopp will survey the current handicap people in the church to ascertain their wishes. Stephen Glauz-Todrank suggested that we have an overall plan for the outside of the church.
Lower Level of Whitaker Hall: Larry Lopp presented plans to remodel the lower level of Whitaker Hall. This entails adding a new flooring surface for the Sunday school area; moving the church office to the room behind the minister’s office, putting in a new sink and water heater, replacing one of the folding walls with a permanent wall, rewiring each area so the lights will work independently of other rooms. New double pane windows are also part of the remodel. Window Contractor was due on Saturday to review and submit his quote. Fern Thompson moved and Pippa Siersema seconded that we approve these improvements. The motion passed.
Handicap Unisex Bathroom: Plans were presented for remodeling the men’s restroom into a unisex bathroom, adding a door from the women’s restroom to the nursery, improving the nursery, cleaning the rug in the nursery, and adding room gas heaters in both restrooms and the nursery. Larry recommended that either the rug be removed from the nursery OR that it be cleaned every 6 months to prevent the moldy smell. Propane wall heaters were quoted at $427 each (Larry), would need to run propane line to each of the rooms. Brian suggested the idea of a forced air furnace in the attic that could supply heat to the nursery, and 2 bathrooms, quote of $1200 and is 93% efficient. Pippa Siersema moved, and Wes Smith seconded a motion that these items be accomplished. The motion passed.
Skyland Run: The trustees will help set up for the run on Friday, July 13th at 7 P.M. Maire Howard will get the manual for setting up for the run from Pippa Siersema.
Movies: Three Fridays there will be free children’s movies shown in Whitaker Hall with pizza afterwards. Larry Lopp suggested that we purchase a projector for these movies and other church functions. The trustees support the plan for purchasing the projector. Estimated costs for the new projector are $1200 to $1600. Larry Lopp will explore purchasing the projector.
Bulk Mailings: In order to be eligible for the post office bulk mailing rate we need at least 200 newsletters to mail. These mailing cannot have items that are not church related in them. Bulk mail costs are 16cents each plus a $175/year permit Vs 41cents for 1st class. Mike Mahrle and John Gaffney will investigate these mailings and investigate the costs of 1st class mailings Vs bulk mailings.
Locks for upper Whitaker Hall: New locking hardware for the 2 metal doors will cost about $400 each. The locking mechanism is not working on one door and the other is intermittent. Brian contacted the original contractor and discovered that they had a door vendor that had given them some quality issues with the locking hardware and that they were not buying from that vendor any more.
Vinyl Repair: Steve Delamore will see that the areas needing repair in the kitchen will be done either on Thursday or next Monday.
History Project: This fund is designated to republish the 100 year history of Skyland Church.
Stephen Glauz-Todrank closed the meeting leading a circle prayer.
There will no meeting in July.
