Discussion:

1. Recognition Sunday (June 10) - Flowers for teachers, certificates for students

Patricia will run the service. Patricia will recognize teachers. Teachers will recognize children. Deacons will provide flowers. Deacons co-chairs are Jennifer Bussam and Richard Lyness.

2. Summer Program Sign-ups

A sign-up sheet was handed around on Sunday, June 3 and about half the summer was covered. Holly will hand it around next Sunday also.

3. Nursery attendant over the summer (will we still hire Kelly or let her know we'll have the summer activity person handle toddlers also?)

What about a Baby Squad? Holly will put the article below in the Newsletter for June and also speak to Kelly about getting paid a smaller sum for showing up when there are no children to care for vs. what she is paid when there are children there. Budget continues to be a concern. Baby Squad will help the weeks Kelly isn’t around at least and, if it works, will work all the time.

Article:

It is important for parents of babies and toddlers to have that quiet hour to re-new their spirits. We want to be sure there is a safe and loving place for them to leave their children. There aren't babies every Sunday, so it is difficult to schedule someone to attend the Nursery when, half the time, there is no one to care for. The Baby Squad will be a small group of adults who attend fairly regularly. If a family with a small child (infant to 3-4 year old) arrives, a squad member would introduce him/herself and offer to take the child with them to the Nursery. Once we have a group signed up, there will be an email sent each week to make sure some member of the Baby Squad will be attending that coming Sunday. Members would agree among themselves each Sunday who would be "it" for that service. We will be circulating a sign-up sheet. Please help make Skyland a welcoming place for young families and join the Baby Squad.

4. Youth sleep-over,6/16, pancake breakfast assistants early Sunday morning (the 17th).

Kim is managing, Sherrie will offer back-up and stay over. Invitations were reviewed and edited. There will be a pancake breakfast on Father’s Day, 6/17 to feed the sleepy youth group and all the church and community families who attend. Gene and Jan Geist will cook with help from the youth and one or two additional adults to back-up the sleepy chaperones. Breakfast will be from 8AM until 10AM. To be announced in the newsletter.

5. Teacher recruitment and training for next fall.

Patricia was still away on vacation so this topic was tabled.

Other business: Plans for upgrading lower Whitaker Hall facilities.

Larry Lopp attended to inform the RBE about upgrade plans for floors, walls and plumbing. The team suggested the addition of new windows for insulation. The lighting will be separated by room to save power. Sink will be made workable and a “vanity” counter added for utility. The small side room behind Steve’s office will be where the office stuff in front of the door will go with a wall and door added to create an office for interns when they are here. The only slider left will be the one between the long main room to create two classrooms, when necessary. The fireside room will have walls and door and double as meeting room and choir practice room.

The next meeting will be upon arrangement since the 4th of July celebration will happen on July 1 when we would normally have our meeting.
