Minutes for Skyland Womens Group

Meeting Date: 4/3/2007

Submitted by: Deloise Mahrle

Details:

We met at Fern Thompsons home.

Our leader, Mary Ellen, brought the meeting to order.

Del Mahrle provided the devotional reading, a poem based on Hebrew 13:5.

Mary Ellen asked if all had seen the minutes on the website. Most had. After discussion, they were approved as read

Sunshine Cards were signed by the attending women and will be sent to: Joyce Haworth, Vince Busam, Sally Mitchell and John Anderson.

Diane Cooke gave the treasurers report. The current balance is $794.13 The Spaghetti Dinner netted $411.63. The retreat netted $146.75. A typing error was corrected. Diane reported that we are doing well. Childrens Inc. has been paid for the year.

The soap making class will be held on April 21. It will be a half-day workshop. We need six (at least) in the class for it to be held. So far, four are signed up. The money needs to be to Mary Skillicorn. Mary Ellen will check with Mary and with the class teacher to see if the class will be held.

Dorothy Ellis reported she is ready to decorate for the Easter Services. Janis Smith will help. Fern Thompson will set out coffee for the sunrise service. Del and Mike Mahrle will help clean up after the first service. Nancy Jo Lopp will clean up after the second service. We all should bring baked goods for the coffee hours for both services and be ready to help clean up after the second service. Glenda plans to bring a Scripture Cake. She will have the recipe available for those who wish a copy. Del will bring fruit. Dorothy will bring Panettone or Hot Cross Buns.

Joan Law reported that the her organizational chart for the kitchen is almost ready. She displayed the frames she has chosen for the charts which will hang on the south wall to the right. It was mentioned that Holly Reed has given the supply job to Fern Thompson. It was suggested that she buy things in smaller packages so that the women in the church who cannot lift the larger packages still can serve in the kitchen. Also our storage space is limited and we have been asked by the Trustees to keep the kitchen storage in the kitchen. Joan presented the idea of a check-out list for people to sign when they borrow items from the kitchen for home use. She also mentioned the procedures lists (for coffee-making particularly) and the kitchen manual that will help orient people to the new kitchen. After discussion, the women approved Joans ideas. Jan Swayne suggested the type of paper towels that can be torn off in small or large pieces. However several people felt that would be too expensive.

Joan asked the womens group what should be done with the service sets of plates and cups that are taking up space in the new cabinets. Nancy Jo moved and Del seconded that we recycle the sets. This was amended. The women voted to keep the cups and recycle the plates before Harvest Festival.

In answer to a question about what the policy should be for using the dishwasher. Nancy Jo volunteered to write a policy stating: If you are there and dishes are in the dishwasher and they are clean, empty it. If you run the dishwasher, put a little sticky note on it to say the dishes are clean. It is important to make sure the water is on long enough for the dishwasher to finish washing before the water goes off. Larry Lopp is writing a manual for using the water system as part of the system that will be in place when we rent the kitchen to people not from our church. It would be good for members to look at it too.

Peggy Johnson, who is co-chairing the Harvest Festival this year, has asked the womens group whether they would like to have adult clothes at the festival this year. The women agreed that they do. Del Mahrle volunteered to take suitable adult clothes home for storage after they have been sorted at the designated drop off site. Janis will help sort. Jackie volunteered to take unsuitable clothing to the Happy Dragon. A poster will be made stating: THEYRE BACK BY POPULAR REQUEST. The job of making the poster was not delegated.

Mays Womens Group meeting will be held at Mary Ellens home on May 1, at 10:00 A.M. Dorothy Ellis will do the devotional. Jan Swayne suggested that we all may help with the refreshments for womens group meetings if we wish.

Respectfully submitted,

Del Mahrle
