Details

Committee members' visions:

John - church should be example to community of what we have done to help global warming. Put photo voltaic cells on roof.

Pippa - recycle!! Stop using paper plates and styrofoam cups at church. Raise money through church facilities, get into wedding circle, advertise, do a video, have a website, beautification of outside of church. 2 venues - one for community, one for commercial. Outreach to other churches. Open weekend where we go to each other's churches, or open house after services. More music stuff.

Jeremy - Keep feeling that this is place where I can always be - has felt that for over 20 years.

Ruth - Continue emphasis in providing food, clean water, shelter. Food vouchers for hard to store perishables, continue to support Heifer, crop walk, great crime preventer. 2. Use less fuel 3. Projects to protect ocean and water quality 4. Growth - beef up youth group 5. More emphasis on UCC, more members on boards in conferences, pay delegates way to annual meeting 6. Spiritual development, pastor as a coach - minister who takes small group of people who want to develop their spiritual lives and work with them. 7. More women's retreats and other activities like that. 8. Practical ways to live Christian ethics - sermon series on that.

Larry - Missions help should also try to be green, try to communicate with each other and be consistent to select projects that are compatible with our vision. In reaching out, can see where church can be community focal point. Display sunday school art to congregation. Let's church know what is going on in Sunday school. How do we grow but stay who we want to be.

Jan - We could hire somebody to make our grounds to look better. Have somebody help us. Youth have place to come where they want to be here, are excited to come here, they have what they need, have youth pastor. Be known as a green community, taking care of our earth can emanate from our church, come to be known as center for generating well-being for our earth. Generating well-being in the worship communities.

Joan - History for outreach with earth day cleanup. Church is our haven. Wants us to be in the flow as we do all of these things.

Patricia - Our children and arts together. Kids enjoyed Carol's songs and then were enthusiastic to perform. Children's choir, summer art camp. Art display at church, rotating shows, display different artists, would draw people in and beautify hall. Reach out, involve community. Reconciliation committee have some body to it, address broader issues such as non-violence, peace work, between other churches. Outreach to people in our immediate and wider community.

Gerry - Our church is a sanctuary where people can be themselves, get support, give support, a home for people.

Brian - Having trouble balancing in mind concept of spend money to make money, potential conflict between providing place for people to be, versus making money.

Steve - Skyland Church as a training venue.

Reaching out (and Giving Back) - Greening of Skyland Church (education) , Al Anon/Alateen, Stewardship of hall/space/community - balance community with outreach. Summer program for kids. Art camp. Youth counselors. Kids back after Sunday school back to church.

Managing the flow - Signs and property upkeep and maintenance

Nurturing the Soul - Kids in front for Sunday school, youth director/pastor

Green - Energy independent

Keep doing what we do well, tie in new things, growth and being a prophetic voice can be uncomfortable

Three categories came out of the discussion:

Greening

Youth

Outreach and Giving Back
