Summary: We recapped the Spaghetti Dinner, planned for the Women’s Retreat on Feb 17th, and discussed the soap making class. Details Minutes for Skyland Women’s Group Meeting Date: 2/6/2007
We met at Paula Leary’s home
Our leader, Mary Ellen, brought the meeting to order.
Del Mahrle led the Devotional based on Philippians 2: 1-14.
Mary Ellen handed out the minutes of the last meeting. After discussion, they were approved
Sunshine Cards were signed by the attending women and will be sent to: Janis Smith, Joyce Haworth, Sally Mitchell, Nancy Og, and Al Hanson. Prayer was offered.
Diane Cooke gave the treasurer’s report. The women’s group started the year with $523.56. We earned nearly $518.00 (gross) with the Spaghetti Dinner. Payments for the coming retreat total $50.00 with more coming. Over 20 are registered, but some have not turned in their checks. Diane will compare list of people who have signed up with the list of checks received and will call those without checks. Expenses for supporting the Indian Boy will be $168.00 every six months. It was moved and seconded that we continue supporting the child, even though this is an increase. Diane passed around a card and picture from the boy, Juan B. Diane reported that the cost for the new chafing Dishes was sent to the church treasurer. Their cost will come out of the Capital Equipment fund. Paula agreed to label the chafing dishes.
Mary Ellen read Joan Law’s report of the Spaghetti Dinner. Overall it went well. Several suggestions for improvement were included. We need more spoons and forks. Perhaps have it earlier next year and allow some social time before eating. The Kazoos were a hit, as was the rest of the entertainment. We think it works best to keep it on Friday. We also agreed that having wine brought by the people for sharing worked. We do need to work out a better arrangement for access to the wine by the adults, and no access by the children.
We will send a thank you note to Joan for her superb job of chairing the Spaghetti dinner again.
Mary Ellen also reported that we have a good list of people for the coming Women’s Retreat. Eileen has proposed the theme: “Quiet Center”. She asks that we all bring arts and crafts materials to be shared. Ruth volunteered to bring juice for the retreat. Jan Swayne will bring forks and spoons. Paula will bring napkins. Joan will make a coffee cake, Mary Skillicorn will make a fruit salad, and Diane Cooke will bring muffins. Paula, Nancy Jo, Del and others agreed to bring art materials to the retreat.
Mary Ellen reported that Emile is not available for a cooking class right now. He is feeling overwhelmed. We will ask again later. Suggestions were made for changing the venue—outdoors, Radonich Ranch, Beach, etc.
The soap making class will be held on April 21. It will be a half-day workshop. A sign-up sheet was circulated.
We have had a communication from Larry Lopp. He would like one member from each committee to work on the address book and other formats and forms at of the Skyland web site. They will meet Monday, Feb 26th, at 7.30 Del Mahrle volunteered to do so.
Diane Cooke announced that she will resign as treasurer of the women’s group at the end of this year (June). A suggestion was made that we let the women’s group’s monies go into the church funds and be handled by the church treasurer. The group voted no.
Mary Skillicorn will be in charge of the Flower Calendar for the coming year.
The March 6, meeting will be at Del Mahrle’s home. Mary Skillicorn will host the June meeting.
Ruth will give the March devotional.
Respectfully submitted, Del Marhle
