Summary: We discussed the Christmas Potluck, The Spaghetti dinner, The Retreat, a possible soap making class, Our sponsorship of an American Indian boy, a possible class with Emile in our kitchen, and the kitchen project.

Details

We met at Joan Law’s home. Mary Ellen brought the meeting to order. Nancy Jo provided the devotional. Mary Ellen handed out the minutes of the last meeting.

Sunshine Cards were signed by the attending women and will be sent to: Fern Thompson, Jeremy Cole, Janice Smith and Joyce Haworth. A sign-up sheet was passed for people to volunteer to make soup or to spend time with Joyce Haworth.

The Christmas potluck went well. Food was good, great variety, and people enjoyed the warmth and the fact that the kitchen is finished.

Spaghetti Dinner: Nancy Jo commented that the chafing dishes used for the spaghetti dinner last time seem to be missing. It turned out that the ones used before actually were borrowed and had been returned. We decided to price new chafing dishes. Jan Geist will check into the cost. Julie will check to see if we may borrow some from Brenda, Joan will check with Emile to see if he has some we can acquire. We decided not to provide wine for the dinner. Those who want wine may bring some to share. We will bring our wine glasses from home as we did last time. Joan passed a sign-up sheet for people to volunteer to help with set up and at the dinner. A sign up sheet was also passed for desserts. Dorothy will furnish garlic bread as she has done before. Joan made a proposal for presentations that will be kept secret until the night of the dinner. Carol Greene was asked to bring a puppet (person) and lead us in the Lord’s Prayer.

Retreat: Julie announced that she will be unable to be at meetings for awhile due to a change in her schedule. However, she and Mary Ellen will meet with Eileen to organize the retreat. Suggested themes are: “Friendship” and “Deepening Our Spirituality.” For Example: Prayer—how to add prayers to our normal day, “prayers in pairs”, walking meditation. We will discuss this again in February Dorothy Ellis announced she would like to donate a scholarship to the retreat. Mary Ellen will put an announcement in the church newsletter.

Soap Making Class: Mary Ellen presented the idea. Renee_______ would provide the class. We need eight people for the class to work. It will cost $55.00 per person. $30.00 will go the leader, the rest to the Women’s Group. Each person will come away with four bars of soap. We approved the suggestion. Mary Ellen will set a date in April or May.

Support of the American Indian Boy: We have been giving $300.00 Per year to help support a young boy. He has graduated to another school. We have been given a new child to help. We voted and decided to stay with this charity. Jan will check to see if we can do more than send money. Is it ok to visit, for instance?

Maryellen asked Joan to ask Emile to do a cooking class at our church.

Kitchen: Joan reported that we need a few more items for the kitchen. Del volunteered to provide a step stool. We also need towel hangers and a clock.

Next meeting will be held at Paula Leary’s home.

Del Mahrle will provide the devotional.

Respectfully submitted,

Del Mahrle
