SKYLAND CHURCH TRUSTEES MEETING

Whitaker Hall Nov. 9, 2006 7:00 PM

The formal TRUSTEE MEETING was opened with:

A prayer

Review of the agenda.

Minutes were approved as submitted

The Treasurer’s Report (Gerry Alonzo) was given, stating the pledges were slightly below forecast. There still remains some minor problems with the new accounting system (Quick Books), but overall we are making progress. In addition, Gerry gave us the status on:

The kitchen project which showed we are about $8000 over the projected funding, with some other bills still to be paid. Possible estimate for total overage might be $10,000.

Old Business:

Housekeeping

Cleaning of church grounds will be Saturday Dec. 2nd

Miscellaneous

Paula Leary is due to get back to us on the hall rental. Maire will contact. In addition we will need a calendar for hall rental and scheduled activities.

The ladders are not being locked down and risk theft if this is not done.

We lack water faucet keys, Pippa will take care of that.

Kitchen project

Fern gave an update on the kitchen project. She gave the group a tentative schedule of work that still needed to be completed. The counters are due to be installed on Nov.10th (tomorrow). Cabinets to be completed on Monday Nov.13th.

A tour of the kitchen then ensued, with Fern explaining the various things that had been accomplished and things that were to be done. The expectation is we are almost there and Thanksgiving might be a conservative completion date.

Kitchen Reopening Celebration

A tentative date of December 10th at 8:30 AM was given for the celebration; details and schedule will be discussed at the next meeting (?) PROBLEM: next meeting will be after Dec. 10th on Dec. 14th

New Business:

Coffee Hour

The Trustees will be responsible for this for November with the exception of special events. An assignment list will be posted indicating assignments and asking for volunteers if necessary.

Mail delivery

Because we have a P.O. Box, the post office does not deliver to us when the address is not accompanied with the Box Number.

As a consequence, the Post Office returns mail to the sender as not being deliverable. This has been a problem for some years.

Budget

We discussed the budget process and determined it could start earlier than in the past. In addition since the committee members are familiar with the budget they should recommend what the budget for coming year might be.

(i.e. Confucius say: while new broom may sweep clean, old broom knows where the dirt is)

There will be discussion at the Council Meeting on Nov. 16th of the budget procedure. It was further suggested by Brendon that we open the committees to those who wanted to help in addition to those nominated.

Cleanup

For final cleanup at Whitaker hall it was recommended we get the floor waxed.

Kitchen Miscellaneous

We will also compile a list of utensils needed for the kitchen.

New Flyer

Maire Howard presented a mock up of the flyer booklet created by the Trustee and Deacon promotion subcommittee, to be mailed to all new homeowners in the community. The booklet includes a description of the church, a photo of the church, our church identity statement, information about Stephen and testimonials from church members about the value of belonging to Skyland Church.

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:00pm.
