Deacons Meeting: January 13 2012


Deacons Meeting: December 11 2011
Patricia Wood updated the status of her calling. Liturgists, coffee hour, and greeters assigned. Plans for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were made.


Deacons Meeting: November 13 2011
Patricia Woods is nearing her final steps towards Ordainment and Licensure. The Deacons will host Potluck on 11/20/11.


Deacons Meeting: June 12 2011
Planning for yael's going away party. Liturgy and communion elements assigned. Discussion of open and affirming celebration and Patricia Wood's 3-way covenant.


Deacons Meeting: May 17 2011
The Deacons were updated on Patricia's progress towards forming a 3-Way Covenant to work towards Ordination. Stephen is planning a Sebatical leave this summer. Yael's going-away party planning in progress.


Deacons Meeting: April 10 2011
Update provided by Patricia on change in plans for her ministry work. As a result of this discussion, Patricia will propose a new work-group to assist in exploring options for ministry outreach to the community. Housekeeping tasks were assigned.

Housekeeping tasks were assigned. Feedback sumbitted by members on ideas for changes to service (Ie: standing for final choir song). Budget reviewed for final approval. Easter season service discussion.

Housekeeping tasks were assigned. We talked to new members about the Deacon's responsibilities and some new ideas for the Deacons.

Discussed how T'Shala can foster awareness of the Santa Clara Conference within our church. Made plans for New Member Sunday. Started to plan Potluck in January to celebrate 20 years of Stephen's ministry at Skyland.

Agree to advertise for a seminary student for the 09-10 school year. Supported the idea of a gathering on 1/20 at Whitaker Hall to witness together a historic moment in US history.

Assigned duties and Salt Shakers. Discussed service changes, Memorial walkway, and community needs. Suggested additional food and wood collections.

Final preparations made for Deacons’ potluck and decoration for Carmen Hermosillo's’ Memorial Concert. Deacons discussed ideas for supporting the Skyland membership and wider community in response to the economy.

Discussion of pulpit coverage during Stephen's sabbatical, Memorial Walk and Deacon Booth at Harvest Festival.

Plans for the Harvest Festival Welcome Booth and the Memorial Area were discussed.

We discussed preliminary considerations for a Memorial Walk. We discussed ways to increase membership.

Plans for and roles of committees in future Memorial walk discussed. Assignments made for May-June liturgists and communion made. Discussion of plans for vacation coverage for Stephen, children and teachers Sunday, Moira's last Sunday.

Deacons welcomed two new members who will be joining next Sunday. They approved $400.00 for Patricia Wood towards testing required for seminary. They made plans for filling the pulpit during Stephen's upcoming vacation.

Deacons reviewed 4-Way Covenant Status with Kristen Pratt and held discussions regarding PSR Interns, Memorial Committee, Telephone Tree, Church Membership List and Goals for 2008.

T’shala updated the Deacons. Church Duties were assigned. The option of getting another intern in Fall of ’08 was discussed, but not acted on. The annual report was outlined, and leaving members were thanked.

New co-chairs were selected, Membership guidelines approved, Mission statement reviewed, and Budget approved. A Memorial fund honoring John Anderson was suggested. “Deacon of the Day��? and Christmas Eve duties were defined and assigned.

The phone tree was invoked by the Deacons to tell everyone about Vince Busam�s Memorial service and the Deacons Sunday. Sunday Duties were assigned through 12/9. The Mission statement, Budget, and Membership Guidelines were deferred to December.

Assignment of Duties during Stephen’s vacation, Mentoring the Marina Church and New Member Orientation were confirmed. Discussions on the membership guidelines resulted in assigning a Deacon each Sunday to greet new visitors.

Plans were made for: implementing Patricia Wood’s suggestions, welcoming Moira, covering Stephen’s vacation, New Member Sunday, and a Minister’s Sunday. Discussions on the membership policy and mentoring a congregation continued.

The Deacons continued their Membership policy discussion, planned for Stephen’s vacation in October, discussed becoming a mentoring church to a congregation near Monterey and deferred the New Member Orientation and Sunday until late October.

The Deacons called members for Joyce Haworth’s memorial service, made plans for the July New Member Service, and deferred the Membership policy and a Bell Ringing proposal.

The Deacons selected their fall intern from 3 excellent candidates, deferred the New Member Sunday until July, and approved the Membership categories the proposed Membership policy along with its normal housekeeping duties.

Interviewed our first intern candidate, reviewed the work of the Visioning Committee and dealt with other Deacons housekeeping tasks
