When: Saturday, September 22, 2007 The first festival was held in 1945 as suggested by Henry von der Mehden, after the rush of fruit season was over. Booths were built by Charles Eggleston, Robert Skillman and Robert Carpenter which held a variety of home grown and cooked foods for sale. The festival was a fund raiser for the Bell Tower. The Bell had been donated and came around the horn, and when it got here was too heavy for the Church. This year a new kitchen is being built which will make community events like music or meetings much easier. The people and friends of Skyland Church in the Santa Cruz Mountains host harvest festival for the whole community. Imagine a day of visiting with neighbors or visitors, eating wonderful home cooked food, and listening to fine music and bidding on a favorite treasure. School has started, the garden is slowing down and the fog is gone. Clothes: They are back by demand. Womens, childrens clothing almost new. This has been missed the most. Lunch - We love to eat: Janet Davies and company serve a fine lunch with salads, a yummy BBQ and lemonade. Gay Kraeger opens her kitchen for a day of baking wonderful pies (my oh my) Silent Auction: Brenda (silent auction) Jatho puts together some of the best items in baskets.. .Local merchants donate items which get included in theme baskets, for example Silver Mountain Vineyard donates wine and the basket is made for a picnic or a fine dinner. Triple O Ozone, services such as Summit and Wilson Vets, Summit Whole body Fitness club. Dr Brent Lay, and especially for you men chain oil by the quart. Produce and plants: The fresh produce is still there gardeners sharing their fruits and vegetables and of course the from the Kitchen of Mary Ellen canned jelly and jams are very much in demand. Children: Looks New is the theme for the clothing which is sorted by Delores Bardin and of course Sue Marvin makes sure that the children toys Work Great. The jumping booth returns by popular demand. The toys are great buys and so appreciated Grandparent alert for Christmas. Also look at silent auction for some amazing childrens items. Books: Margretta Dollard and Glenda McCalla sort books. What makes your heart race, a mystery, a romance a how to book? The variety is huge and the prices so low. Entertainment: The Art and Music headed by John Gaffney is presenting a variety of wonderful music through the day. Sue Marvin is a part of the band "Double Standard" who play swing era jazz and jazz standards. They have a wonderful vocalist, who will be joining them, along with the jazz combo instrumentation of piano/guitar/sax/bass/drums.
